jeudi 2 mars 2017
It’s that time again, and this time it’s lucky number 7 !
We can hardly believe it ourselves but the land occupation of Grow Heathrow is turning 7 on the 5th March. Join us for a weekend of completely off-grid celebration from Friday to Sunday.
With the third runway back on the agenda (boooo) and a possible day in court for us later in the spring (also boooo), could there be a better time to come and say hi ? The birthday weekend is about both long-time supporters and total new-comers coming together and making the most of the space we have.
We follow the philosophy that everyone is crew, and we are more than happy for you to get involved !
Travel tips : we’re somewhere between West Drayton and Heathrow Terminals 1, 2, 3 (no surprise there), so from London, we’d suggest getting a train from Paddington (about 20 mins) or the Piccadilly Line. Then you either cycle or get the 222 bus towards Hounslow West (if you chose West Drayton) or a Heathrow free bus to Nene Road and walk from there.
Finally, feel free to crash over - there’s minimal indoor guest space but lots of tent-pitching potential.

Find out more about the role of community run co-ops and how to support this revolution.
** 2-4pm – Practical migrant solidarity at Heathrow, in OFFICE
This workshop will address the contemporary border regime in the UK, including Heathrow airport and its two detention centres. We will discuss this in the context of climate change, and how it reinforces existing regimes of state and capitalist power, and the economic and racial inequalities that underpin them. The focus will be on practical steps : how can we support and build anti-racist infrastructure at Heathrow ? What lessons can be learned from actions in the past ? What should we do next ?
** 3.30-5pm – Where next for the No Third Runway campaign ? In ALT SPACE
With Heathrow expansion back on the table, come and join a discussion about how we can work to resist it in the months and years to come. We’ll be starting the session with a broader look at why aviation growth has got to stop and what’s (not) being done about it, both in the UK and globally. Expect participants from : Stop Heathrow Expansion, HACAN, Plane Stupid, Rising Up, A Free Ride, La ZAD
** 3-4pm – Herb walk around the site. Starting in MEADOW
Spring is coming, so now’s a perfect time to get to know the many herbs that can be found around Grow Heathrow (and across the UK). We’ll be looking around to see what’s coming out in terms of edibles, medicinals and more !
** 4-5pm – What is food sovereignty and why does it matter ? In POLYTUNNEL
Food sovereignty is a term that’s often used in the environmental movement but what does it mean and how are people in the UK and beyond working to make it a reality ? Dee will also be talking about her involvement in a community kitchen in Kilburn as well as food growing projects around the city.
** 4-5pm – Sigil Magick 101 – Anarchism and the liberation of the mind. In OFFICE
